AJR74,1,2 Relating to: the lifelong professional and community service achievements of Max McGee.

AJR74,1,4 Whereas, William "Max" McGee was born on July 16, 1932, in Sexton City, Texas, and died on October 20, 2007, in Deephaven, Minnesota; and

AJR74,1,6 Whereas, Max McGee played high school football in White Oak, Texas, and college football at Tulane University; and

AJR74,1,8 Whereas, Max McGee was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 1954 National Football League Draft; and

AJR74,1,11 Whereas, Max McGee missed two seasons with the Packers after his rookie year to serve as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, but returned to become the Packers' leading receiver from 1958 to1962; and

AJR74,1,13 Whereas, Max McGee was a 1961 season Pro Bowl selection, and named to the 1964 NFL All Pro Team; and

AJR74,2,3 Whereas, Max McGee scored the first touchdown in Super Bowl history on a pass from Bart Starr in the Packers' 35-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl I; and

AJR74,2,6 Whereas, Max McGee played on the Green Bay Packers' 1967 and 1968 Super Bowl championship teams, and helped the team to six NFL championship appearances and five NFL championship wins; and

AJR74,2,8 Whereas, Max McGee was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1975; and

AJR74,2,11 Whereas, Max McGee provided color commentary on the Green Bay Packers Radio Network with Jim Irwin from 1979-98, and was named Wisconsin "Sportscaster of the Year" an unprecedented ten times; and

AJR74,2,13 Whereas, Max McGee became a partner in developing the popular Chi-Chi's Chain of Mexican restaurants after retiring from football; and

AJR74,2,15 Whereas, Max McGee founded the Maxi Fund after his son, Dallas, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of two; and

AJR74,2,18 Whereas, Max McGee and wife, Denise, founded the Max McGee National Research Center for Juvenile Diabetes at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 1999; and

AJR74,2,21 Whereas, Max McGee leaves behind a lasting legacy and will be remembered as a generous and approachable teammate, friend, husband, brother, father, and grandfather; now, therefore, be it

AJR74,2,25 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the many accomplishments that Max McGee contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

AJR74,3,4 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. McGee's wife, Denise, of Deephaven, Minnesota, originally of River Falls, Wisconsin; his four children, Marla, Mona, Maxwell and Dallas; and his brother, Coy McGee.
