SJR47,1,32 Whereas, Taiwan and the United States enjoy one of the most important
3economic and strategic international relationships; and
SJR47,1,54 Whereas, together, Taiwan and the United States promote a faith and respect
5for freedom, democracy, and fair trade; and
SJR47,1,86 Whereas, Taiwan and the United States have worked hand-in-hand to
7preserve peace and stability within Asia-Pacific and to help improve the lives of their
8citizens and people around the world; and
SJR47,1,129 Whereas, trade between Taiwan and the United States has increased
10significantly during the past decades, with the United States being Taiwan's
11second-largest source of imports and Taiwan being the eighth largest trading
12partner of the United States; and
SJR47,2,213 Whereas, Taiwan is a major trading partner with the United States and an
14important overseas market for United States agricultural products; given the
15remarkable economic performance of Taiwan and the strong purchasing power of its

123 million people, there are many opportunities to further expand bilateral trade
2between the United States and Taiwan; and
SJR47,2,63 Whereas, streamlined foreign investment procedures developed under a
4Taiwan-United States free trade agreement would lead to further investment by
5firms in both Taiwan and the United States and would create new business
6opportunities and new jobs; and
SJR47,2,107 Whereas, a Taiwan-United States free trade agreement would encourage
8greater innovations and manufacturing efficiencies by stimulating joint
9technological development, practical applications, and new cooperative ventures;
10and
SJR47,2,1411 Whereas, a recent study by the United States International Trade Commission
12supports the negotiation of a Taiwan-United States free trade agreement to further
13boost trade between the two countries and serve the broader interests of the United
14States in Asia-Pacific; now, therefore, be it
SJR47,2,17 15Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
16Wisconsin assembly support the negotiation of a Taiwan-United States free trade
17agreement; and, be it further
SJR47,2,19 18Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to
19the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, Illinois.
