Whereas, Wisconsin native and Spring Green resident Frank Lloyd Wright was
4an iconic American architect who designed some of the world's most beautiful and
5innovative buildings; and

Whereas, Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Richland Center, worked in
7Madison, and eventually settled in Spring Green, where he built his
8world-renowned residence, Taliesin; and

Whereas, Wright chose the name "Taliesin," which is Welsh for "shining brow,"
10because Taliesin is positioned on the brow of the hill, rather than on the peak, so that
11the home would appear as though it arose naturally from the landscape; and

Whereas, Taliesin has been called the "greatest domestic space in America,"
13spanning over approximately 112,000 square feet in six original buildings in Spring
14Green, Wisconsin; and

1Whereas, in building Taliesin, Wright explored organic architecture by using
2natural materials such as local limestone and sand from the nearby Wisconsin River
3to build the chimneys and stone piers; and

Whereas, Taliesin was built in 1911 and was the personal residence of Frank
5Lloyd Wright from 1911 to 1959 and will celebrate its 100th year of existence in 2011;
6now, therefore, be it

7Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
8legislature commemorates the 100th anniversary of Taliesin and honors its architect
9and owner Frank Lloyd Wright; and, be it further

10Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this resolution
11to Taliesin Preservation, Inc.
