Whereas, Wisconsin's teachers are responsible for our state's long-held
4reputation for quality schools and a top-notch educational system which is ranked
5number one in the nation for graduation rates; and

Whereas, more Wisconsin students take advanced placement classes today
7than at any other time in state history, with two-thirds taking the ACT test upon
8graduation, putting Wisconsin in the top three nationally, and with three-quarters
9of graduates continuing on to post-secondary schools; and

Whereas, Wisconsin's quality education is due to the tireless dedication and
11passion of our state's teachers who often sacrifice personal time to their classroom
12and school and make themselves available to their students after class to assist those
13who need additional instruction or help; and

Whereas, along with the traditional reading, writing, and arithmetic, teachers
15today devote time to providing their students with the life skills needed to become
1successful adults, parents, and working professionals, including time management,
2health and fitness, budgeting and finance, and communication techniques; and

Whereas, because of our teachers, today's students will become part of
4tomorrow's educated workforce, a workforce necessary for the continuation of our
5state's and nation's economic prosperity; and

Whereas, almost three thousand of Wisconsin's teachers chose to retire in 2011,
7the largest single reduction of public sector employees in the history of Wisconsin;
8now, therefore, be it

9Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
10Wisconsin legislature recognize the hard work, commitment, and dedication of
11Wisconsin's teachers to educating our children and extend their heartfelt gratitude
12to those who have chosen to retire.
