SB564,1,2 1An Act to amend 16.842 (1) and 16.842 (2) of the statutes; relating to: the
2elevation of buildings and structures located near the state capitol building.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Currently, no portion of any building or structure located within one mile of the
center of the state capitol building that is constructed on or after April 28, 1990, may
exceed the elevation of 1,032.8 feet above sea level (the elevation of the base of the
capitol dome). The city of Madison may grant exceptions to the prohibition for
flagpoles, spires, elevator penthouses, or similar building features.
This bill extends the current prohibition to any building or structure located
within two miles of the center of the state capitol building, subject to the same
exceptions. The extension does not apply to any building or structure that was
constructed before the day the bill becomes law.
