2b. of the statutes; relating to: the school attendance requirement under
3Learnfare.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Learnfare program requires school age children of
Wisconsin Works (W-2) participants, with some exceptions, to meet certain school
enrollment standards. An individual who fails to meet the school attendance
requirement may be subject to sanctions determined by the Department of Children
and Families by rule. Under current law, an individual fails to meet the school
attendance requirement if the individual is not enrolled in school or was not enrolled
in the immediately preceding semester. Under this bill, an individual who is
habitually truant or who in the immediately preceding semester was habitually
truant also fails to meet the school attendance requirement.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
