This bill makes a change to rules promulgated by the Department of Natural
Resources relating to the operation of vehicles on DNR properties. Under the bill,
no person may operate a bicycle or motor bicycle during hours of darkness on certain
state trails designated by DNR unless the person or the bicycle or motor bicycle is
equipped with a lamp emitting a white light visible from a distance of at least 500
feet to the front and a lamp emitting a red light visible from a distance of 500 feet to
the rear.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB668,2,45 NR 45.05 (3) (fm) Lighting requirements. No person may operate a bicycle or
6motor bicycle during hours of darkness as defined in s. 340.01 (23), Stats., on a trail
7designated under s. NR 51.73 (1) unless the person or the bicycle or motor bicycle is

1equipped with a lamp emitting a white light visible from a distance of at least 500
2feet to the front of the person or the bicycle or motor bicycle and a lamp emitting a
3steady or flashing red light visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear of the person
4or the bicycle or motor bicycle.
