SB485,1,2 An Act to amend 29.024 (2) (d); and to create 29.164 (3) (f) of the statutes; relating to: transfer of wild turkey hunting license and tag.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Under this bill, a person who receives a notice of approval to obtain a wild turkey hunting license and tag from the Department of Natural Resources may transfer his or her approval to another person who is otherwise eligible to obtain a wild turkey hunting license.

Under current law, if DNR requires wild turkey hunting licenses and the number of applications for wild turkey hunting tags for a given zone or period exceeds the number of available tags, DNR is required to issue licenses and tags for that zone or period according to a cumulative preference system. DNR then notifies applicants selected to receive a license and tag, which are issued upon payment of the license fee.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SB485,1 Section 1. 29.024 (2) (d) of the statutes is amended to read:

SB485,1,6 29.024 (2) (d) Except as provided under s. 29.164 (3) (f), 29.179, 29.180, 29.182 (4), 29.185 (4), or 29.519 (2) (d) or by rule, no person may transfer his or her approval or permit the use of any approval by any other person.

SB485,2 Section 2. 29.164 (3) (f) of the statutes is created to read:

SB485,2,5 29.164 (3) (f) Transfer of tag. A person who receives a notice of approval under par. (e) may transfer his or her approval to another person who is otherwise eligible to obtain a wild turkey hunting license. A person who receives a transferred approval may acquire a wild turkey hunting license and tag as provided in par. (e).
