Whereas, Megan Gustafson was born and raised in the town of Port Wing in
4Bayfield County, graduating from South Shore High School in a class of 11 students
5in 2015; and

Whereas, during her high school career, Megan Gustafson played basketball as
7a South Shore Cardinal and was recruited to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes after
8graduation; and

Whereas, Megan won numerous awards and recognitions playing basketball
10while in high school, including being named to the Wisconsin Associated Press Girls
11Basketball All-State fourth team and the Indianhead Conference's Division 5 Girls
12All-State Team in 2013 as a sophomore; being nominated to the All-Conference first
13team four seasons straight and to the All-State first team twice; being the first
14player in Wisconsin high school girls basketball history to score 2,000 career points
15by her junior year, before ultimately breaking a 2004 all-time scoring record in the
1state of Wisconsin with 3,229 career points, leading her team to two appearances at
2the State Girls Basketball Tournament; and being selected as the 2014-2015
3recipient of the Pat Richter Award as the Triple Play Triple Threat Female Athlete
4of the Year and the Indianhead Conference's Player of the Year for both the West and
5East Divisions in 2015; and

Whereas, Gustafson will graduate on May 10, 2019, from the University of Iowa
7with a double major in finance and marketing and a minor in psychology, where she
8has been recognized as All-Academic Big Ten, having maintained at least a 3.0 GPA
9during her entire college career; and

Whereas, Gustafson leads the nation in scoring, points, and field goal
11percentages and is the top rebounder in Big Ten history leading Iowa to a Big Ten
12Tournament title before being named a first-team All-American by ESPNW for the
13second year in a row in addition to winning the Big Ten Player of the Year award
14twice, making Megan only the ninth two-time Big Ten Player of the Year in
15conference history; and

Whereas, during her college career, Megan has earned and received many
17awards, including being recently named the 2018-2019 ESPNW National Player of
18the Year, the Naismith Player of the Year, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association
19Player of the Year, the Associated Press Women's College Basketball Player of the
20Year, 13-time Big Ten Player of the Week, first-team AP All American, first-team
21All-Big Ten, Big Ten Tournament MVP, and recipient of the Lisa Leslie Award, given
22to the nation's top center; and

Whereas, an incredible college career came to an end on April 1, 2019, with a
24career total 2,804 points, 1,001 of which were scored in her final season, making
25Gustafson only the fourth player in Division I history to score 1,000 points in a
1season, 136 collegiate games played, breaking records for field goals, points,
2rebounds, and season percentages and field goal percentages for the NCAA,
3University of Iowa, and Big Ten while leading the Iowa Hawkeyes to their first Big
4Ten Tournament title in 18 years and to their first Elite Eight in 26 years as well as
5helping Iowa tie a program record with 29 wins in her final season; and

Whereas, at the Women's National Basketball Association's draft on April 10,
72019, at the Nike New York headquarters in New York City, Megan Gustafson was
8selected 17th overall in the second round of the draft to begin her professional
9basketball career with the Dallas Wings; and

Whereas, Megan Gustafson has consistently represented her family,
11community, teams, state, and country as a positive role model in high school and
12college, serving in leadership roles, supporting her teammates during their
13successes and failures, committing to hard work and inspiring others to do the same;

assembly, the senate concurring, That that the members
16of the Wisconsin Legislature hereby recognize Megan Gustafson for her outstanding
