SJR65,1,1 Relating to: honoring Bishop Donald J. Hying.

SJR65,1,3 Whereas, Donald J. Hying was born in West Allis, Wisconsin, the youngest of six sons, to parents Albert and Catherine Hying, on August 18, 1963; and

SJR65,1,5 Whereas, Donald Hying attended St. Aloysius and Immaculate Heart of Mary grade schools, and graduated from Brookfield Central High School; and

SJR65,1,9 Whereas, Donald Hying earned his bachelor's degree in history, philosophy, and theology from Marquette University, a master's of divinity degree from St. Francis de Sales Seminary, and completed his class work in the doctor of ministry program at the University of St. Mary of the Lake-Mundelin Seminary; and

SJR65,1,12 Whereas, Father Hying was ordained a priest for the Milwaukee Archdiocese on May 20, 1989 and served as the associate pastor of St. Anthony Parish, Menomonee Falls from 1989 to 1994; and

SJR65,2,2 Whereas, Father Hying served as a Team Member for La Sagrada Familia Parroquia, Dominican Republic, from 1994 to 1997, before returning to the Milwaukee Archdiocese for various parish assignments until Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan appointed him rector of St. Francis de Sales Seminary in 2007; and

SJR65,2,4 Whereas, Father Hying was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to be an auxiliary bishop for the Milwaukee Archdiocese on May 26, 2011; and

SJR65,2,6 Whereas, Bishop Hying was appointed by Pope Francis to be the Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, Indiana on November 24, 2014; and

SJR65,2,9 Whereas, Bishop Hying was again appointed by Pope Francis to be the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin on April 25, 2019 and installed as the Bishop on June 25, 2019; and

SJR65,2,12 Whereas, Bishop Hying will lead the Madison diocese, which is home to 288,000 Catholics who worship in 102 parishes located across eleven counties in the southwest corner of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it

SJR65,2,15 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin State Legislature join in honoring and commending Bishop Donald J. Hying on his appointment and installation as the Bishop for the Diocese of Madison.
