Whereas, Donald J. Hying was born in West Allis, Wisconsin, the youngest of
3six sons, to parents Albert and Catherine Hying, on August 18, 1963; and

Whereas, Donald Hying attended St. Aloysius and Immaculate Heart of Mary
5grade schools, and graduated from Brookfield Central High School; and

Whereas, Donald Hying earned his bachelor's degree in history, philosophy, and
7theology from Marquette University, a master's of divinity degree from St. Francis
8de Sales Seminary, and completed his class work in the doctor of ministry program
9at the University of St. Mary of the Lake-Mundelin Seminary; and

Whereas, Father Hying was ordained a priest for the Milwaukee Archdiocese
11on May 20, 1989 and served as the associate pastor of St. Anthony Parish,
12Menomonee Falls from 1989 to 1994; and

Whereas, Father Hying served as a Team Member for La Sagrada Familia
14Parroquia, Dominican Republic, from 1994 to 1997, before returning to the
1Milwaukee Archdiocese for various parish assignments until Milwaukee Archbishop
2Timothy Dolan appointed him rector of St. Francis de Sales Seminary in 2007; and

Whereas, Father Hying was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to be an auxiliary
4bishop for the Milwaukee Archdiocese on May 26, 2011; and

Whereas, Bishop Hying was appointed by Pope Francis to be the Bishop of the
6Diocese of Gary, Indiana on November 24, 2014; and

Whereas, Bishop Hying was again appointed by Pope Francis to be the fifth
8Bishop of the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin on April 25, 2019 and installed as the
9Bishop on June 25, 2019; and

Whereas, Bishop Hying will lead the Madison diocese, which is home to 288,000
11Catholics who worship in 102 parishes located across eleven counties in the
12southwest corner of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it

senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin State Legislature join in honoring and commending Bishop Donald J.
15Hying on his appointment and installation as the Bishop for the Diocese of Madison.
