SJR39,1,1 Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Representative Sheryl Albers.

SJR39,1,3 Whereas, Representative Sheryl Albers, a dedicated public servant and loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on May 28, 2022 at the age of 67; and

SJR39,1,5 Whereas, Sheryl Albers was born on September 9, 1954, as the second of eight children to Marcus and Norma Gumz, and grew up in Baraboo, Wisconsin; and

SJR39,1,8 Whereas, Sheryl Albers graduated from Baraboo High School and went on to attend Carroll University and earned her bachelor's degree in Art from Ripon College; and

SJR39,1,11 Whereas, Sheryl Albers was a proud farmer, having grown up on her family's farm and returning to work at her family's farm following college growing mint and soybeans before becoming a dairy farmer; and

SJR39,1,14 Whereas, Sheryl Albers was elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 1991 in a special election, and served the people of the 50th Assembly District for 18 years until she retired in 2009; and

SJR39,2,4 Whereas, during her time in the assembly, Sheryl Albers served as the chair for several committees including the Elections and Constitutional Law Committee and the Property Rights and Land Management Committee, and she served as a member of the Joint Committee on Finance for several sessions; and

SJR39,2,7 Whereas, Sheryl Albers was a fierce advocate for the agriculture community and worked on issues affecting agriculture including property rights, rural economic development, and land use and zoning; and

SJR39,2,9 Whereas, while serving as a representative, Sheryl Albers attended the University of Wisconsin Law School and earned her J.D. in 2004; and

SJR39,2,13 Whereas, following her service in the assembly, Sheryl Albers practiced law, which included working for the Juneau County District Attorney's Office and the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the Office of Lawyer Regulation, and worked in human resources at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections; and

SJR39,2,19 Whereas, Sheryl Albers was recognized for her hard work and contributions to the farming community, having served as a member on the Sauk County Farm Bureau Board, being named Sauk County's Miss Farm Bureau, recognized as an Outstanding Young Farmer, and being a member of several agricultural associations including being a founding member of the Sauk County Women in Agriculture-Eagle Bluff Chapter; and

SJR39,2,23 Whereas, Sheryl Albers had many talents and hobbies including being a talented seamstress, creating craft gifts, traveling and appreciating art from around the world, enjoying the company of friends and hosting dinners, and she earned her private pilot's license and owned a Terratorn Ultralight aircraft; and

SJR39,3,3 Whereas, Sheryl Albers was a loving wife to her husband, Steve, and a mother to her son, Joel, and four stepchildren, Kelly, Devon, Megan, and Tyler, and grandmother to seven grandchildren; and

SJR39,3,6 Whereas, Representative Sheryl Albers is remembered fondly for her strong work ethic, faith, kindness, and service to her state and community; now, therefore, be it

SJR39,3,9 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature honor the life and public service of Representative Sheryl Albers and extend their condolences to her family and friends.
