SJR53,1,52Whereas, Mental Health Awareness Month provides a meaningful 3opportunity to recognize the vital role mental well-being plays in the health of 4individuals, families, and communities across Wisconsin, to promote informed 5dialogue, and to address the stigma surrounding mental health; and SJR53,1,86Whereas, mental health conditions affect one in five U.S. adults and one in six 7youth annually, touching the lives of Wisconsinites across every age group and 8region; and SJR53,1,129Whereas, Wisconsin is facing a significant rise in youth mental health 10challenges, mirroring a nationwide 31 percent increase in emergency room visits 11related to mental health among young people in 2020, a concerning trend that has 12continued to grow in recent years; and SJR53,2,213Whereas, in both rural and urban settings, access to professional mental
1health services across all 72 Wisconsin counties remains essential for meeting the 2mental health needs of Wisconsin’s population; and SJR53,2,53Whereas, by providing care, guidance, and connection, mental health 4professionals and peer support networks empower individuals to manage mental 5health challenges and work toward a brighter, healthier future; and SJR53,2,86Whereas, with effective treatment, education, and community support, 7individuals experiencing mental health conditions can recover, grow, and thrive; 8and SJR53,2,119Whereas, the Wisconsin Legislature recognizes the critical need to strengthen 10mental health systems and remains committed to advancing initiatives that expand 11access, reduce barriers, and improve awareness; now, therefore, be it SJR53,2,1412Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin 13Legislature designates May 2025 and May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness 14Months in Wisconsin.
