TO 2009 SENATE BILL 227

SB227-SA2,1,11 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:
SB227-SA2,1,3 21. Page 3, line 2: delete the material beginning with that line and ending with
3page 4, line 3, and substitute:
SB227-SA2,1,8 4"13.41 Interim successors for legislators. (1) (a) If, during an emergency
5resulting from enemy action, there are 9 or more vacancies in the senate at the same
6time, as determined under s. 17.03, the senate leader of each political party, as
7specified in pars. (b) and (c), shall, for each vacant senate seat that was last held by
8a member of his or her party, do all of the following:
SB227-SA2,1,119 1. Request that the state chairperson of the party solicit nominations for an
10interim successor from the county chairpersons of the party in each county that is
11at least partially within the senate district.
SB227-SA2,1,1312 2. Request that the state chairperson of the party select at least 3 and not more
13than 5 potential interim successors from the nominees under subd. 1.

13. Request that the state chairperson of the party submit the names of the
2potential interim successors selected under subd. 2. to the senate leader of the party
3within 7 days after the date on which the 9th vacancy occurred.
SB227-SA2,2,54 4. Within 14 days after the 9th vacancy occurred, appoint an interim successor
5from the list of potential interim successors submitted under subd. 3.

7is not vacant, is the senate leader for the majority party under par. (a):

SB227-SA2,2,1615 (c) The person holding the highest position, ranked in the following order, that

SB227-SA2,3,2 22(2) (a) If, during an emergency resulting from enemy action, there are 25 or
23more vacancies in the assembly at the same time, as determined under s. 17.03, the
24assembly leader of each political party, as specified in pars. (b) and (c), shall, for each

1vacant assembly seat that was last held by a member of his or her party, do all of the

7successor who is unwilling, unable, or ineligible under the constitution and the
8statutes to serve as a legislator.".
SB227-SA2,4,9 92. Page 4, line 4: delete "(3) or (4)" and substitute "(1) or (2)".
SB227-SA2,4,10 103. Page 4, line 5: after "office" insert "immediately upon appointment".
SB227-SA2,4,12 114. Page 4, line 13: delete "or the emergency resulting from the enemy action
