1Relating to: commending and congratulating the cities of Madison and Milwaukee
2for reaching the status of union cities.
Whereas, Madison and Milwaukee have been awarded official "Union City" 4
status by the AFL-CIO; and
Whereas, Madison and Milwaukee labor unions have taken grassroots action 6
to increase citizen participation in the democratic process by increasing voter 7
registration and turnout and community involvement; and
Whereas, labor unions in Madison and Milwaukee have built strong and 9
effective union-community alliances with business, faith-based, civil rights, and 10
women's organizations; and
Whereas, labor unions in Madison and Milwaukee have been successful in 12
raising a public voice for working families so that local communities are economically 13
strong and their families have a better standard of living; now, therefore, be it
14Resolved by the assembly, That
the members of the Wisconsin assembly 15
hereby commend and congratulate the cities of Madison and Milwaukee for reaching
the official status of "Union Cities" and thank the labor unions for their contribution 2
to creating a stronger community and better standard of living for the working 3
women and men of Wisconsin.
