2011 Senate Joint Resolution 13
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: declaring January 26 as Bob Uecker Day.
Whereas, Robert George “Bob" Uecker was born in Milwaukee and has been calling play-by-play radio broadcasts for the Milwaukee Brewers since 1971, making this year his 40th anniversary; and
Whereas, Bob Uecker has over the decades shown a love and passion for the Milwaukee Brewers, its players, and the game of baseball; and
Whereas, Bob Uecker was named Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year five times by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association; and
Whereas, Bob Uecker was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998; and
Whereas, Bob Uecker's signature humor has made him not only recognizable in radio broadcasts, but also in television sportscasts, and in an acting career that has included movies, television shows, and commercials; and
Whereas, Bob Uecker appeared over 100 times on The Tonight Show and was nicknamed “Mr. Baseball" by Johnny Carson; and
Whereas, Bob Uecker played baseball with the Milwaukee Braves, St. Louis Cardinals (World Series Champions in 1964), and Philadelphia Phillies; and
Whereas, doing yard work, gardening, working on your car, cleaning out the garage, or working around the house seems more enjoyable when listening to Bob Uecker call a Brewers game over the radio; and
Whereas, Bob Uecker is a beloved figure in Wisconsin baseball; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That in gratitude for Bob Uecker's continuing contribution to Wisconsin baseball, and in appreciation for his accomplishments, the Wisconsin legislature hereby commends Bob Uecker and declares that January 26 is hereafter each year proclaimed “Bob Uecker Day" in Wisconsin; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to Bob Uecker.
