Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Deysha Smith-Jenkins of Whitefish Bay Dominican High School. Deysha won the Division 2 100 meters, set a state record in the 200, and finished 3rd in the 400 at WIAA Track & Field State Championships.
Senator Hopper, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Fond du Lac native Travis Diener, who will be inducted into the Marquette M Club Hall of Fame in August. Travis was a three year starter on the Marquette University basketball team, and as a sophomore in 2002-03, Diener led the Golden Eagles to the Final Four for the first time since 1977. Diener was a team captain in both 2003-04 and 2004-05 and earned All-Conference USA First Team honors for each season. He also earned national recognition as a finalist for the John R. Wooden and the Bob Cousy Awards in 2004. Diener selected 38th overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic. Diener played five seasons for three teams in the NBA before heading to play in Italy for the 2010-11 season. Congratulations again, Travis, on a well-deserved honor.
Senator Miller, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the 2011 Wisconsin Professional Police Association Law Enforcement Service Awards. Every year, this organization pays tribute to its members and other remarkable citizens for outstanding service to their communities. Senator Miller is honored to recognize these individuals for their courage. They each exemplify the best characteristics of Wisconsin law enforcement and of our community at large.
Award for Valor recipients include: Burnett County Deputy Ryan Bybee, Dane County Deputy Keith Severson, Monona Police Officers Bruce Rogers and James Reiter and Polk County Sergeant Michael Stoffel.
Meritorious Award recipients include: Jackson County Deputy Scott Bluedorn, Fox Point Police Officers John Adamaitis, Benjamin Brouwer and James Hanna, Shawano County Deputies Jonathan Blaskowski and Justin Hoffman.
Meritorious Award and the Award for Valor recipients include: Onalaska Police Officer Lisa Gerbig, LaCrosse County Deputy Daniel Baudek, Onalaska Police Officer James Page, West Allis Police Sergeant Clinton Corwin, West Allis Police Officers Ryan McNally and Nick Stachula, West Milwaukee Police Officers Brian Murphy and Tamara Taubel.
