Biography

Born Janesville, February 25, 1944; married; 4 step-children, 2 children. Graduate Janesville H.S. 1962; B.S. UW-Whitewater 1966; graduate work Northern Ill. U. Full-time legislator. Secy. of Wis. Dept. of Health and Social Services 1987-88. Former vice president, senior vice president, Blue Cross/Blue Shield 1988-2007. Served in U.S. Army Reserve. Member: Les Aspin School of Gov’t. Bd. of Visitors; Echo (bd. mbr.); Janesville Teacher Diversity Bd. (chp.). Former member: Common Cause (fmr. bd. mbr.); Wisconsin Eye (bd. mbr.); Janesville YMCA (bd. mbr.). Janesville city council 1970-71. Janesville School Bd. 2007-10.

Elected to Senate 1974-1986; reelected 2010. Majority Leader 1985, 1983, 1981 (eff. 5/26/82).
