Relating to a Special Election for the Twentieth Senate District
WHEREAS, on November 4, 2014, the Honorable Glenn Grothman was elected to the office of U.S. Representative for Wisconsin’s Sixth Congressional District; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Glenn Grothman will commence his term as U.S. Representative on January 3, 2015, which is prior to the end of this current term of office as State Senator for Wisconsin’s Twentieth Senate District; and
WHEREAS, on December 15, 2014, the Honorable Glenn Grothman submitted to the Office of the Governor a written resignation as State Senator for the Twentieth Senate District, effective January 3, 2015; and
WHEREAS, this resignation will create a vacancy in the office of State Senator for the Twentieth Senate District as of January 3, 2015;
NOW THEREFORE, I, SCOTT WALKER, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, pursuant to article IV, section 14 of the Wisconsin Constitution and section 8.50 of the Wisconsin Statutes, order that a special election be help concurrently with the spring election on April 7, 2015, to fill the vacancy in the Twentieth Senate District, the boundaries of which are set out in section 4.009 of the Wisconsin Statutes, as created by 2011 Act 43. A copy of the boundary descriptions may be obtained from the Government Accountability Board or the Legislative Reference Bureau. The term of office for the Twentieth Senate District will expire on the first Monday in January, 2017. If a primary is necessary, it will be held concurrently with the spring primary, on February 17, 2015. Circulation of nomination papers for candidate may begin today, December 16, 2014, and nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00p.m., January 6, 2015, in the office of the Government Accountability Board, 212 East Washington Avenue, Third Floor, Madison, Wisconsin. This election shall be held, conducted, canvassed, and returned in accordance with law.
