895.4455 of the statutes; relating to: damages for injury, loss,
2or death of pet.

This bill allows a person who is suing for recovery of damages for injury to, loss
of, or death of a domestic animal to recover the actual damages, including medical
bills and travel costs, in addition to any other remedies allowed by law.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
895.4455 of the statutes is created to read:
4895.4455 Recovery for injury, loss, or death of animal. (1) Definition. 5
In this section, “domestic animal” means a dog, cat, or other animal that is 6
domesticated and kept as a household pet, but does not include a farm animal, as 7
defined in s. 951.01 (3).
In an action for recovery of damages for injury, loss, or death of 9
a domestic animal, including damages under s. 174.02 (1), a plaintiff who prevails
in the action may recover actual damages, including medical bills and travel costs, 2
for the injury, loss, or death of the domestic animal in addition to any other remedies 3
available under law.
