1An Act to create
20.285 (1) (em) and 36.27 (3q) of the statutes; relating to:
2resident undergraduate tuition remission at the University of Wisconsin
3System for student teachers and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill provides full remission of undergraduate tuition to resident
undergraduate students enrolled in a teaching program in a University of Wisconsin
System school during the UW student's semester of student teaching.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
20.285 (1) (em) of the statutes is created to read:
(em) Student teacher tuition remission.
A sum sufficient to 6
reimburse the University of Wisconsin System for student teacher tuition remissions 7
under s. 36.27 (3q).
36.27 (3q) of the statutes is created to read:
36.27 (3q) Tuition remission for student teachers.
(a) In this subsection, 2
“student teacher” means an individual enrolled as a resident undergraduate student 3
in the system who is participating in the student teaching component of a teacher 4
preparatory program in this state approved by the state superintendent of public 5
instruction under s. 115.28 (7) (a).
(b) The board shall grant full remission of resident undergraduate tuition to 7
student teachers during their semester of student teaching.
(c) The cost to the system of remissions under this subsection shall be paid from 9
the appropriation account under s. 20.285 (1) (em).
(1) This act first applies to individuals who commence student teaching in the 12
first semester that begins after the effective date of this subsection.
This act takes effect on the first day of the 3rd month beginning after 15
