PI 34.056 PI 34.056 American Indian history, culture, and tribal sovereignty license.
PI 34.056(1) (1) Authorization. A license issued under this section authorizes the license holder to teach Wisconsin American Indian history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of one of the following tribes in an American Indian education program.
PI 34.056(1)(a) (a) Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
PI 34.056(1)(b) (b) Lac Courte Oreilles Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
PI 34.056(1)(c) (c) Lac du Flambeau Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
PI 34.056(1)(d) (d) Red Cliff Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
PI 34.056(1)(e) (e) Sokaogon Chippewa Community.
PI 34.056(1)(f) (f)   St. Croix Chippewa Community.
PI 34.056(1)(g) (g) Forest County Potawatomi Community.
PI 34.056(1)(h) (h) Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians.
PI 34.056(1)(i) (i) Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.
PI 34.056(1)(j) (j) Oneida Nation of Wisconsin.
PI 34.056(1)(k) (k) Ho-Chunk Nation.
PI 34.056(2) (2)Eligibility. The state superintendent may issue an American Indian history, culture, and tribal sovereignty license under this section to an applicant who meets all of the following requirements:
PI 34.056(2)(a) (a) The applicant holds or is eligible to hold a teaching license.
PI 34.056(2)(b) (b) The applicant is recommended for the license by the employing school district administrator or the employing administrator of an alternative school.
PI 34.056(2)(c) (c) The applicant is certified to be competent in the associated American Indian history, culture, and tribal sovereignty. The certification under this paragraph shall be made by one of the following entities, as determined by the associated tribal government:
PI 34.056(2)(c)1. 1. The tribal council.
PI 34.056(2)(c)2. 2. The tribal language division.
PI 34.056(2)(c)3. 3. The local American Indian parent advisory committee.
PI 34.056(3) (3)Alternative eligibility. The state superintendent may issue a 2-year American Indian history, culture, and tribal sovereignty license under this section to an applicant who meets all of the requirements under sub. (2), except sub. (2) (a). If an individual completes 6 semesters of teaching experience with a license issued under this subsection, the state superintendent may issue the individual a license under sub. (2) if the individual meets all of the following requirements:
PI 34.056(3)(a) (a) The individual meets the requirements under sub. (2) (b)and (c).
PI 34.056(3)(b) (b) The individual submits evidence demonstrating that the individual has all of the following competencies:
PI 34.056(3)(b)1. 1. The ability to plan and organize instructional materials, units, and lessons designed to instruct pupils in the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of Wisconsin American Indians.
PI 34.056(3)(b)2. 2. The ability to classify the principal ways in which the Wisconsin American Indian culture resembles and differs from that of the non-Native culture of the United States.
PI 34.056(3)(b)3. 3. The ability to draw from personal experience in order to create a variety of learning situations which bring the reality of American Indian culture closer to the pupil.
PI 34.056(3)(b)4. 4. The ability to devise teaching methods appropriate to the culture of Wisconsin American Indians.
PI 34.056(3)(b)5. 5. The ability to develop, encourage, and promote pupil participation in activities and events which reflect the contemporary ways of life of the Wisconsin American Indian culture and tribal sovereignty.
PI 34.056(3)(b)6. 6. Knowledge of the principles and theories of child, young adolescent, or adolescent growth and development, as appropriate to the level or levels of licensure, and the relationship of that knowledge to teaching Wisconsin American Indian history, culture, and tribal sovereignty.
PI 34.056 Note Note: The 2-year term of this license for an applicant who meets the criteria for alternative eligibility is incorrect per the procedures outlined in s. 118.19 (18), Stats., and will be corrected in future rulemaking.
