SR6,1,1 1Relating to: proclaiming April 2000 as "Savings and Investing Month" in this state.
SR6,1,32 Whereas, the citizens of this state should make well-informed, educated
3decisions about where and how they save and invest their personal income; and
SR6,1,74 Whereas, through the Your Money Matters financial education program, the
5department of financial institutions seeks to teach the citizens of this state the basics
6of saving and investing and the importance of creating personal wealth through a
7saving and investment plan; and
SR6,1,118 Whereas, the department of financial institutions, along with its national
9partners, has developed the Financial Literacy 2001 program, which is provided free
10of charge to teachers and schools for use in teaching financial responsibility to the
11school children of this state; and
SR6,1,1512 Whereas, the department of financial institutions, in association with the
13Wisconsin Council on Economic Education, has used the Stock Market Game to
14better educate children in grades 4 to 12 on how economic markets work and on the
15impact that the stock market has on our daily lives; and

1Whereas, it is the responsibility of every individual to learn the facts of saving
2and investing, take charge of his or her money, realize the importance of saving for
3his or her family's future, investigate securities and the companies and brokers that
4sell them before investing, and understand that it is never too late to invest; and
SR6,2,85 Whereas, during the month of April 2000, state and federal agencies, securities
6regulators, consumer groups, the financial industry and the media will join together
7to conduct educational events in schools and communities to illustrate the
8importance of personal financial ownership; now, therefore, be it
SR6,2,12 9Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin senate declare
10April 2000 as "Saving and Investing Month", and call on the citizens of this state to
11observe this declaration through participation in programs and activities to improve
12their financial futures; and, be it further
SR6,2,15 13Resolved, That, during this month and throughout the year, the department
14of financial institutions will conduct activities to educate the citizens of this state on
15the importance of saving and investing.
