1Relating to: proclaiming October as Italian-American month.

Whereas, in the early 1900s millions of immigrants and their families left their
3homes in Italy to come to America in search of a new life, bringing with them a strong
4strength of character, belief in hard work, devotion to family, love of life, and a
5reverence and appreciation for the arts; and

6Whereas, connected by a shared heritage, a strong determination to succeed,
7and appreciation for the new freedom they found, Italian immigrants played an
8integral role in creating some of our country's most valued national treasures,
9including the Lincoln Memorial, numerous statues and artwork in the National
10Cathedral and Capitol, as well as the dome and corridors of our own state capitol in
11Madison; and

12Whereas, Italian-Americans are filled with pride and gratitude for family and
13ancestral culture which, through the generations, has greatly influenced almost
14every aspect of our nation's culture, including language, history, architecture, food,
15fashion, film, politics, literature, music, sports, and government; and

1Whereas, October has been celebrated as Italian-American Heritage Month for
2many years to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments and contributions
3Italian-Americans have made to enrich the fabric and foundation of our nation; now,
4therefore, be it

5Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin legislature hereby recognizes
6October as Italian-American Heritage Month in the state of Wisconsin and officially
7commends Italian-Americans for the numerous and invaluable contributions they
8have made to our country and the state of Wisconsin; and

9Be it further resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of
10this resolution to the Italian Workmen's Club of Madison, Italian-American
11Women's Club of Madison, Italian Community Center of Milwaukee, Roma Lodge of
12Racine, Italian-American Society of Kenosha, and Club Italo Americano of Green
13Bay in recognition of their contributions to the diversity of the state of Wisconsin.
