Whereas, glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that cause vision loss through
3damage to the optic nerve; and

Whereas, over three million Americans have glaucoma, with experts
5estimating that at least half of those people are not aware of it; and

Whereas, glaucoma is the world's second-leading cause of blindness according
7the World Health Organization; and

Whereas, glaucoma has virtually no symptoms, is gradual, and causes
9irreversible blindness; and

Whereas, glaucoma can be detected through comprehensive eye examinations,
11and medications or surgery can help slow or prevent further vision loss; and

Whereas, glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness for African-Americans,
13and high-risk groups include people over 60, diabetics, and people of African,
14Hispanic, and Asian descent; and
