SENATE AMENDMENT 4, To 1995 ASSEMBLY BILL 557

AB557-SA4,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the engrossed bill as follows:

AB557-SA4,1,3 1. Page 3, line 10: after the first semicolon insert: "restricting the use of state or federal funds for a major highway project on USH 12;".

AB557-SA4,1,4 2. Page 29, line 18: after that line insert:

AB557-SA4,1,5 " Section 53m. 84.013 (3) (re) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB557-SA4,1,8 84.013 (3) (re) USH 12 extending approximately 18.2 miles between the USH 12/14 interchange area in Middleton and STH 60 in Dane and Sauk counties. Construction of this major highway project is subject to sub. (10).".

AB557-SA4,1,10 " Section 54m. 84.013 (10) of the statutes is created to read:

AB557-SA4,1,12 84.013 (10) Construction of the major highway project specified under sub. (3) (re) is subject to the following limitations:

AB557-SA4,2,3 (a) No state or federal funds appropriated for the department may be expended for any highway construction, reconstruction or reconditioning that results in additional lanes or for any preliminary engineering and design work and studies relating to highway construction, reconstruction or reconditioning that would result in additional lanes, except that this prohibition with respect to additional lanes does not apply to any additional lane on a limited segment of the major highway project for purposes directly related to improving safety and reducing traffic accidents.

AB557-SA4,2,6 (b) Nothing in par. (a) prohibits the expenditure of state or federal funds for maintenance, resurfacing, reconditioning or reconstruction to improve safety and reduce traffic accidents that does not result in additional lanes.

AB557-SA4,2,8 (c) The department may not expend more than $20,000,000 for construction of this major highway project.".
