ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Wisconsin's dairy industry.
Whereas, Wisconsin, "America's Dairyland", has historically been number one in the nation in the amount of milk produced, amounting to 14.6% of the nation's milk production; and
Whereas, income from the sale of milk from Wisconsin's 1.5 million dairy cows was 56% of Wisconsin's total cash receipts in 1993 from farm marketing; and
Whereas, Wisconsin manufactures 30% of the nation's cheese and 23% of the nation's butter; and
Whereas, American cheese is the leading type of cheese made in Wisconsin, accounting for 30% of the nation's American cheese; Italian is Wisconsin's 2nd leading cheese variety, accounting for 31% of the nation's Italian cheese; and Wisconsin produces 60% of the nation's Muenster cheese, 65% of the Brick cheese, 83% of the Blue cheese, 18% of the Swiss cheese and 100% of the Limburger cheese; and
Whereas, Wisconsin produces a large variety of milk by-products, including condensed and dry milk and whey products; and
Whereas, dairying provides $2.9 billion to Wisconsin's farm income, the processing of dairy products employs almost 17,000 people in Wisconsin, 37% of Wisconsin's farms are involved in dairying and 241 dairy plants in this state manufacture one or more dairy products; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature commends the untiring efforts of all dairy farmers, their families and the entire dairy industry who, even in adverse weather and economic hardships, efficiently supply the state and the nation with nature's most perfect food, milk, and many delicious dairy products; and, be it further
Resolved, That it is the intent of the Wisconsin legislature to keep Wisconsin dairying and the dairy industry strong, vibrant and number one in the nation.
