2relating to: the operation of snowmobiles on the roadways of highways for the
3purposes of personal access.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person may not operate a snowmobile on the roadway of
a highway, street or road except under certain limited circumstances. The bill
specifically authorizes the operation of a snowmobile on a portion of such a roadway
if that portion of the roadway lies within the boundaries of a town, city or village that
has enacted an ordinance that allows the operation of snowmobiles on that portion
for the purposes of personal access. The bill defines personal access as being the
operation of a snowmobile on a roadway for the shortest distance necessary to travel
between a residence and the nearest snowmobile trail or route to that residence.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
