SB554,1,2
1An Act to create 30.637 of the statutes;
relating to: restricted areas above and
2below hydroelectric dams and granting rule-making authority.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under this bill, no person may be in or on a body of water or be present on the
banks of a body water within 300 feet below a hydroelectric dam if the area is marked
with warning signs, buoys and with an amber flashing light that is illuminated. The
prohibition also applies to areas that are within 200 feet above a hydroelectric dam.
The bill requires the department of natural resources to promulgate rules to
establish standards for these signs, buoys and lights. The bill exempts the signs,
buoys and lights from the permitting requirements under current law that regulate
the placement of structures and buoys in navigable waters.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
