1An Act to create 84.1044 of the statutes;
relating to: designating STH 160 as
2the "Polish Veterans Memorial Highway".

This bill directs the department of transportation to designate and mark the
entire route of STH 160 as the "Polish Veterans Memorial Highway" to honor Polish
military veterans of the U.S. armed forces. The bill prohibits the expenditure of state
funds to erect any designating markers.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1. 84.1044 of the statutes is created to read:

484.1044 Polish Veterans Memorial Highway. (1) In recognition of their
5courageous, dutiful and selfless service to this state and the U.S. armed forces, the
6department shall designate STH 160, commencing at STH 29 at Angelica and
7proceeding easterly to STH 32 at Pulaski, as the "Polish Veterans Memorial
8Highway" to commemorate and honor the exceptional military service and
9patriotism shown by this state's Polish veterans throughout its history.

1(2) Upon receipt of contributions totaling not less than $800 from interested
2parties, including any city, village, town or county, the department shall erect
3markers along STH 160 in the following locations:

(a) One marker immediately after the junction with STH 29 to clearly identify
5the designation of the route to motorists proceeding easterly.

(b) One marker immediately after the junction with STH 32 to clearly identify
7the designation of the route to motorists proceeding westerly.

8(3) No state funds may be used for the erection of any marker under this
9section.
