1An Act to amend 755.02 of the statutes;
relating to: terms of municipal judges.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a municipal judge is elected in April and his or her term
begins on May 1. The term of a municipal judge is two years unless a longer term,
not to exceed four years, is provided by ordinance or bylaw. This bill sets the term
for all municipal judge at four years.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1. 755.02 of the statutes is amended to read:

3755.02 Term. The judges shall be elected at large for a term of

unless
4a longer term, not exceeding 4 years, is provided by ordinance or bylaw. The term
5shall commence on May 1 of the year of the judge's election.
