Gathering Waters Conservancy
September 12, 2002
The Honorable, The Senate:
It is my pleasure to share with you a report on Gathering Waters Conservancy's activities and accomplishments for Fiscal year 2002. This report is being submitted in accordance with the statutory requirements of s.
23.0955(2)(b)5. Gathering Waters Conservancy has had an extremely successful year, thanks to the on going support of the state legislature and the Department of Natural Resources.
In 2000, Gathering Waters Conservancy adopted an ambitious strategic plan (see attached) to guide our efforts through the end of 2002. We are proud to report that we accomplished and exceeded the goals set out in that plan. Our major accomplishments for FY 2002 are described in the attached report.
Thank you again for your ongoing support and commitment to building the strength of Wisconsin's land trust community. Our efforts are paying off. There are now 45 land trusts in the state. Together these organization have permanently protected over 100,000 acres in communities across Wisconsin. Land trusts in Wisconsin have a combined membership in the tens of thousands and hundreds of local volunteers; they have raised millions of dollars to protect critical lands that benefit the public; and they work with private landowners every day to promote stewardship and protection of our natural resources.
S796
We look forward to continuing to work with the Department and the state legislature to achieve our mutual conservation goals. Please do not hesitate to contact me for additional information. I have also attached Gathering Waters Conservancy's annual and financial reports for FY 2002 for your review.
Sincerely,
