Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person who intentionally marks, draws, or writes on or
etches onto another person's property without the person's consent may be fined not
more than $10,000 or imprisoned for not more than nine months or both. If, however,
the property is reduced in value by more than $2,500, the maximum term of
imprisonment is ten years. This bill lowers the damage threshold at which the longer
term of imprisonment may be imposed to $1,000.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
