AJR96,1,1 Relating to: the retirement of Cliff Miller.

AJR96,1,3 Whereas, Cliff Miller has been a Capitol correspondent for the Appleton Post-Crescent since 1975; and

AJR96,1,5 Whereas, his roots in the Fox Valley date back to 1957, when he graduated from Menasha High School; and

AJR96,1,7 Whereas, Cliff attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1962; and

AJR96,1,9 Whereas, he started his career at the Twin Cities News-Record in April 1966, covering Neenah and Menasha; and

AJR96,1,11 Whereas, from 1969 to 1973 Cliff began to cover the City of Appleton government beat for the Post-Crescent; and

AJR96,1,15 Whereas, one of the highlights of his career was being awarded an American Political Science Association fellowship in 1973-74 to work and study inside Congress, obtaining assignments to the staffs of former Vice President and Senator Hubert H. Humphrey and former U.S. Representative Morris K. Udall; and

AJR96,2,4 Whereas, during his time at the State Capitol, Cliff Miller has covered 14 legislative sessions, 6 governors, and 57 Fox Valley senators and representatives, along with numerous assembly speakers, senate presidents, majority leaders, minority leaders, and other legislators; and

AJR96,2,7 Whereas, he has informed the readers of the Post-Crescent by writing hundreds of columns and thousands of news articles on budgets, bills, legislators, and the events in the State Capitol; and

AJR96,2,10 Whereas, despite the sometimes adversarial relationship between the government and the press, Cliff's warmth and good humor have always been evident to those in and around the State Capitol; and

AJR96,2,12 Whereas, he has ably upheld the long tradition of fine State Capitol reporting and won the esteem of his colleagues in the media; and

AJR96,2,14 Whereas, after 27 years, the State Capitol and the pages of the Appleton Post-Crescent will not be the same without Cliff Miller; now, therefore, be it

AJR96,2,17 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute Cliff Miller on his retirement from the Appleton Post-Crescent; and, be it further

AJR96,2,20 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall present a copy of this joint resolution to Cliff Miller, along with the good wishes of the legislature for a long, healthy, and active retirement.
