2003 Assembly Joint Resolution 87
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team.
Whereas, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team won the NCAA Division III National Championship, defeating defending champion Williams College 84 to 82 on March 20, 2004, in Salem, Virginia; and
Whereas, the UWSP Pointers set a school record with 29 victories and tied a NCAA Division III record with 34 games played; and
Whereas, the UWSP Pointers won the 2004 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Title; and
Whereas, the UWSP Pointers have been in the NCAA Division III rankings for 46 consecutive polls; and
Whereas, the UWSP Pointers ranked 4th in NCAA Division III field goal percentage with 50.9, and shot 56.3 percent in 6 NCAA tournament games; and
Whereas, throughout the season, the UWSP Pointers thrilled their fans, inspired their community, and brought pride to the state of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, the 2004 UWSP Pointers will forever be remembered as a team that relied on teamwork, sportsmanship, determination, and courage to achieve a national championship; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly congratulate the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team and Coach Jack Bennett for their remarkable season and wish them continued success; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to each of the UWSP Pointer coaches and players.
