Relating to a Proclamation that the Flag of the United States and the Flag of the United States and the Flag of the State of Wisconsin be Flown at Half-Staff as a Mark of Respect for Former United States Senator William Proxmire
WHEREAS, on December 15, 2005, William Proxmire passed away at the age of ninety; and
WHEREAS, William Proxmire served with distinction in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1951-1952 and in the United States Senate from 1957-1989; and
WHEREAS, William Proxmire earned a national reputation in his career-long fight to reduce wasteful government spending; and
WHEREAS, William Proxmire worked tirelessly in the United States Senate to ratify the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime and Genocide; and
WHEREAS, a memorial service will be held at the State Capitol for William Proxmire on Friday, February 10, 2006;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM DOYLE, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by Federal State law, do hereby order that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds, and military installations of the State of Wisconsin equipped with such flags beginning at sunrise on February 10, 2006, and ending at sunset on that date.
IN TESTIMONY WHERE OF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Wisconsin to be affixed. Done at the Capitol in the city of Madison this ninth day of February in the year two thousand six.
