AJR38,1,2 Relating to: commending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team.

AJR38,1,6 Whereas, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men's basketball team, coached by Jack Bennett, won the NCAA Division III national championship for a 2nd consecutive year, defeating the University of Rochester 73-49, the largest margin of victory ever recorded in a national championship game; and

AJR38,1,9 Whereas, the UWSP Pointers, led by Division III national player of the year and first-team all-American Jason Kalsow and first-team all-American Nick Bennett, matched the school record of 29 victories set during the previous season; and

AJR38,1,11 Whereas, Coach Jack Bennett ended the season as UWSP's all-time winningest coach; and

AJR38,1,13 Whereas, the UWSP Pointers captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Title for a 2nd straight season; and

AJR38,2,3 Whereas, UWSP placed 2nd in NCAA Division III scoring defense with an average of 56.1 points allowed per game and ranked 4th in scoring margin, outscoring their opponents by an average of 17.2 points per game; and

AJR38,2,7 Whereas, during a season that captivated their community and basketball fans across the country, the UWSP Pointers competed with pride and excellence and represented themselves with honor and distinction on a national stage; now, therefore, be it

AJR38,2,11 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly congratulate the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team and Coach Jack Bennett for their remarkable season and wish them continued success; and, be it further

AJR38,2,13 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to each of the UWSP Pointer coaches and players.
