AJR80,1,1 1Relating to: the life and military service of Corporal Rachael L. Hugo.
AJR80,1,42 Whereas, Corporal Rachael L. Hugo was born May 13, 1983, in Madison,
3Wisconsin, and died on October 5, 2007, in Bayji, Iraq, when her unit came under fire
4by anti-Iraqi forces; and
AJR80,1,75 Whereas, Corporal Hugo served with distinction and compassion as a medic
6and member of the 303rd Military Police Company, 97th Military Police Battalion,
789th Military Police Brigade, United State Army Reserve; and
AJR80,1,118 Whereas, Corporal Hugo was known as "Combat Barbie" and regularly
9volunteered to go out on missions, including her final mission, and told her family
10that "being a medic is what I chose to do, and being a medic is what I love to do!" and
11that she always wanted to be there for "her guys" in case someone got hurt; and
AJR80,1,1412 Whereas, Corporal Hugo was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple
13Heart, and the Meritorious Service Medal, all three being presented to her parents
14at her funeral service; and

1Whereas, Corporal Hugo will be remembered by her family as a great student
2all through school, making the Dean's List while working toward her Bachelor's
3Degree in Nursing at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and taking pride
4in her fluency in both Spanish and Russian; and
AJR80,2,85 Whereas, Corporal Hugo will be remembered by friends and family as an
6individual who loved life to the fullest, enjoying many hobbies and activities
7including hiking, camping, hunting and fishing, dancing, movies, and shopping with
8the people who loved her; and
AJR80,2,119 Whereas, Corporal Hugo loved her country and family and was honored to serve
10both and will be deeply missed by friends and family and those she served with; now,
11therefore, be it
AJR80,2,14 12Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
13legislature commemorates the remarkable life of Rachael L. Hugo and extends its
14deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
AJR80,2,23 15Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
16resolution to Rachael Hugo's parents, Kermit and Ruth Hugo, of Madison; her
17brother, Scott Hugo, of Madison; her grandmother, Carol Hugo, of Fitchburg; her
18great-uncle, Robert Hugo, of Madison; her uncle, Richard Hugo II, of Madison; her
19aunt, Valerie Hugo, of Marshall; her aunt Lynn and uncle Tim Shomer and their
20family, of Janesville; her uncle Don and aunt Lori Jensen, of McFarland; her uncle,
21Richard Jensen, of Madison; her uncle Dennis and aunt Joy Jensen, of New Freedom;
22her aunt Betty and uncle Richard Tracy, of Madison; and her aunt, Elaine Backey,
23of Madison.
