118.019 (2p) Abstinence-only human growth and development.
(a) In 7
addition to the instructional program provided under sub. (2), a school board may 8
offer courses in abstinence-only human growth and development. Courses offered 9
under this subsection shall be made available to any pupil whose parent or guardian 10
submits a written request that his or her child take instruction in abstinence-only 11
human growth and development.
(b) A school board that elects to offer courses in abstinence-only human growth 13
and development may establish policies to determine all of the following:
1. The subjects, identified under sub. (2), to be included in and excluded from 2
the abstinence-only human growth and development curriculum.
2. Whether to offer an abstinence-only human growth and development course 4
in any grade in any particular school year. Policies developed under this subdivision 5
may include consideration of the level of interest in abstinence-only human growth 6
and development courses among the parents and guardians of pupils enrolled in the 7
(c) A school board that elects to offer courses in abstinence-only human growth 9
and development shall provide to the parent or guardian of each child who is enrolled 10
in an abstinence-only human growth and development course a complete list of all 11
subjects identified under sub. (2) that will not be covered in the course offered under 12
118.019 (5) Advisory committee.
In any school district that offers a human 2
growth and development curriculum, including an abstinence-only human growth
3and development curriculum,
the school board shall appoint an advisory committee 4
composed of parents, teachers, school administrators, pupils, health care 5
professionals, members of the clergy,
and other residents of the school district. The 6
advisory committee shall develop the human growth and development curriculum 7and, if applicable, the abstinence-only human growth and development curriculum, 8
and advise the school board on the design, review,
and implementation of the 9
advisory committee's human growth and development curriculum. The advisory 10
committee shall review the curriculum at least every 3 years.".
