Senator Erpenbach, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Signe Knutson from Waunakee, who is here today with her dad, Tryg Knutson, for "Take Your Child to Work Day."
Senator Fitzgerald, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his son, Connor, who is shadowing him as a part of "Take Your Child to Work Day."
Senator Schultz, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of 2009, as the Year of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway. Earlier today we passed Assembly Joint Resolution 28 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Riverway's establishment, which was granted by enabling legislation in 1989. It was Senator Schultz's pleasure to work with former State Senator Richard Kreul and Representative Spencer Black to pass a law that allowed the Riverway project to commence along the final 92 miles of the Wisconsin River. The bill also created the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board, a new state agency responsible for administration of the innovative scenic protection regulations. The Riverway legislation was signed into law following years of public meetings and controversy. Senator Schultz asks that as we adjourn, we give special recognition to a former member of his staff, Mark Cupp, who has been the director of the Riverway since its inception.
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Lenny Kitson, Kenosha Veteran of the Year. Lenny is a tireless volunteer for veterans.
Senator Holperin, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of of Sartori Food Corporation in Antigo, and master cheesemaker John Griffiths, who brought the title of U.S. Champion Cheese back to Wisconsin with his SarVecchio Parmesan. The championship judging this year was conducted, fittingly, at Lambeau Field in late March, and Sartori's win marked the 11th time in 15 championship contests that a Wisconsin cheese has captured the title.
Senator Lehman, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the Senate Scholar Program; our two students, Greta Neubauer and Sara Danielson; and Jacob Clark, Erin Allers and Dana Mundell.
Senator Lazich, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of St. James School, Mukwonago 8th Graders and their teacher Marsha Gutzmacher for winning the Lexus Eco Challenge. They've collected a $40,000 in prize winnings for themselves and their school from the Lexus Eco Challenge, a national philanthropic effort aimed at helping youths make a difference.
Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Jessica Holden. Senator Jauch met Jessica Holden, a foster child, earlier this year in Milwaukee when he went to speak with a group about the child welfare and foster care system. He was immediately impressed by this bright, energetic and passionate young lady. Jessica is a remarkable 18-year-old and a high academic achiever at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee. She participates in the International Baccalaureate Program and has received the Student Achiever Award from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation and Milwaukee Brewers Charities. She is also a fierce forensics competitor and has written a one-act play on aspects of the child welfare system. Jessica is also an Earthwatch Institute Student Fellowship recipient to study and do fieldwork to document the effects of climate change in the Arctic Circle. Jessica's hard work and creativity have been rewarded through numerous college scholarships, such as the Horatio Alger Scholars award and the Dell Scholarship. Jessica will attend Northwestern University, where she has been awarded numerous renewable scholarships that will cover her first year. She will study psychology at Northwestern as she pursues her goal of becoming a counseling psychologist.
