SB772,1,2 1An Act to amend 108.08 (1) and 108.09 (1) of the statutes; relating to: methods
2of filing for claims for unemployment insurance benefits.

This bill requires the Department of Workforce Development to allow claims for
unemployment insurance benefits to be filed by telephone.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB772,1 3Section 1. 108.08 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB772,1,84 108.08 (1) To receive benefits for any given week of unemployment, a claimant
5shall give notice to the department with respect to such week of unemployment
6within such time and in such manner as the department may by rule prescribe,
7except that the department shall permit such notice to be given to the department
8via telephone
.

1Section 2. 108.09 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB772,2,82 108.09 (1) Filing. Claims for benefits shall be filed pursuant to department
3rules, except that the department shall permit claims for benefits to be filed via
4telephone
. Each employer that is notified of a benefit claim shall promptly inform
5the department in writing as to any eligibility question in objection to such claim
6together with the reasons for the objection. The department may also obtain
7information from the employee concerning the employee's eligibility, employment or
8wages.
