The proposed rule affects ch. HFS 58, Wis. Adm. Code, relating to eligibility for the kinship care program.
Reason for rules, intended effects, requirements:
These are rules for the Kinship Care Program under s. 48.57 (3m), (3n), (3p) and (3t), Stats. The program authorizes a county or tribal child welfare agency or, in the case of Milwaukee County, the Department, to make a monthly payment or $215 to an approved nonparent relative of a child to help the relative provide care and maintenance for the child. The program began July 1, 1996. Amendments to the program statute included in 1997 Wis. Act 237 and effective in June 1998 directed the Department to promulgate rules which set forth criteria for determining the eligibility of a relative to receive the monthly kinship care payment. These are the rules.
