(1) Except as provided in sub. (4), the headlamps or the auxiliary driving
6lamp or the auxiliary passing lamp or combination thereof on motor vehicles other
7than mopeds and motor bicycles shall be so arranged that the driver may select at
8will between distributions of light projected to different elevations.
No such lamp
9shall have any type of decorative covering that restricts the amount of light emitted
10when the lamp is in use. Such lamps may, in addition, be so arranged that such
11selection can be made automatically.

(4) Any motor vehicle may be operated during hours of darkness when
14equipped with 2 lighted lamps upon the front thereof capable of revealing persons
15and objects 75 feet ahead in lieu of lamps required by subs. (1) to (3) if such vehicle
16at no time is operated at a speed in excess of 20 miles per hour.

2of light emitted when the lighted lamp is in use.

(2) The headlamp shall display a white light of sufficient illuminating
5power to reveal any person, vehicle or substantial object at a distance of 200 feet
6ahead and shall be so adjusted or operated that the glaring light rays therefrom are
7not directed into the eyes of the driver of any oncoming vehicle.
No headlamp shall

9the headlamp is in use.

(1) No person shall operate a motor vehicle, mobile home or trailer or
12semitrailer upon a highway during hours of darkness unless such motor vehicle,
13mobile home or trailer or semitrailer is equipped with at least one tail lamp mounted
14on the rear which, when lighted during hours of darkness, emits a red light plainly
15visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear.
No tail lamp shall have any type of
16decorative covering that restricts the amount of light emitted when the tail lamp is
17in use. No vehicle originally equipped at the time of manufacture and sale with 2 tail
18lamps shall be operated upon a highway during hours of darkness unless both such
19lamps are in good working order.".
