SENATE AMENDMENT 6, To 1995 SENATE BILL 144

SB144-SA6,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

SB144-SA6,1,3 1. Page 8, line 1: delete "Require" and substitute "Except as provided in par. (ak), require".

SB144-SA6,1,4 2. Page 8, line 8: after that line insert:

SB144-SA6,1,16 "(ak) As an alternative to surrendering a firearm under par. (a) 2., the respondent may elect to sell or make a gift of any firearm that he or she owns to another person. The respondent must make an election under this paragraph by informing the judge or family court commissioner no later than 24 hours after the injunction under sub. (4) is issued that he or she is selling or making a gift of some or all of the firearms he or she owns. Upon being informed by the respondent that he or she is electing to sell or make gifts of firearms under this paragraph, the judge or family court commissioner shall stay the surrender requirement under par. (a) 2., except that any firearms that the respondent elects not to sell or give away shall be surrendered as provided under par. (a) 2. A judge or family court commissioner may issue any necessary additional orders concerning the procedure for selling or making a gift of a firearm under this paragraph.".
