3"(aq) If a sheriff has in his or her possession a firearm that has been
4surrendered under par. (a) 2. and the sheriff must transport that firearm for any
5reason, the sheriff shall transport the firearm in a protective case that will ensure
6all of the following:

1. That the firearm is not damaged in any way.

2. That the firearm does not come into contact with another firearm.

(at) A sheriff to whom a firearm has been surrendered under par. (a) 2. is liable
10for any damage caused to that firearm while it is in the possession of the sheriff.".
