SENATE AMENDMENT 8, To 1995 SENATE BILL 144

SB144-SA8,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

SB144-SA8,1,2 1. Page 8, line 8: after that line insert:

SB144-SA8,1,5 "(ar) If a sheriff has in his or her possession a firearm that has been surrendered under par. (a) 2., the sheriff shall store the firearm in accordance with all of the following requirements:

SB144-SA8,1,7 1. The firearm shall be stored in a place in which the humidity is controlled in a way that ensures that the firearm will not rust or corrode.

SB144-SA8,1,9 2. The firearm shall be stored in a rack and on pegs that ensure that the firearm will not come into contact with another firearm.

SB144-SA8,1,12 3. If the firearm is antique or rare or is otherwise similar to a museum object, the firearm shall be stored in a manner that preserves and safeguards the firearm to the same degree as the manner of storage used by the firearm's owner.

SB144-SA8,1,14 (at) A sheriff to whom a firearm has been surrendered under par. (a) 2. is liable for any damage caused to that firearm while it is in the possession of the sheriff.".
