13develop and administer an innovative safety measures pilot program to improve the
14safety of highways in this state, including USH 10. The department shall identify
15those highways eligible for funding for safety improvements under s. 20.395 (3) (cq)
16that have high motor vehicle accident rates. From the appropriation under s. 20.395
17(3) (cq), the department shall expend $250,000 in each fiscal year for any innovative
18measures that improve safety on such highways, including safety lighting for
19underpasses, and entrance and exit ramps; warning lights on dangerous curves;
20speed detection signs; increasing the number of speed limit signs; rumble strips at
21intersections; measures to alert approaching motorists to an intersection; and
22increasing the patrolling of such highways by police. The department shall
23promulgate rules to implement this subsection.".
