AJR12-ASA1,1,2 1Relating to: commemorating and supporting the achievements and contributions
2of the Boy Scouts of America
AJR12-ASA1,1,53 Whereas, a good turn rendered by a British Boy Scout in 1909 to Chicago
4publisher, William D. Boyce, led to his incorporating the Boy Scouts of America on
5February 8, 1910; and
AJR12-ASA1,1,86 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America is an organization dedicated to training
7youth in responsible citizenship, personal development, and character guidance, in
8an effort to instill their duty to God and country; and
AJR12-ASA1,1,109 Whereas, the United States Congress recognized the irreplaceable value of the
10Boy Scouts of America by issuing a federal charter in 1916; and
AJR12-ASA1,1,1311 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America have become one of the largest voluntary
12youth movements in the United States with a membership exceeding 6 million loyal
13Americans; and

1Whereas, the Scouts and their families representing 142,587 Scouting units,
2321 councils, and 16,800 communities in all 50 states have shown a commitment to
3delivering America's Promise through nearly 200 million community service hours
4completing projects of importance to all citizens; and
AJR12-ASA1,2,75 Whereas, the United States Supreme Court has affirmed the rights of the Boys
6Scouts of America to maintain their values through standards for membership and
7leadership as provided for in the Scout Oath and Law; now, therefore, be it
AJR12-ASA1,2,10 8Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
9Wisconsin legislature express their support for the Boy Scouts of America and the
10values instilled through the Scout Oath and Law; and, be it further
AJR12-ASA1,2,14 11Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature encourage all
12citizens and organizations in the state to recognize the importance of the Boy Scouts
13of America to Wisconsin and maintain their support for this cherished tradition of
14our nation; and, be it further
AJR12-ASA1,2,19 15Resolved, That the Wisconsin legislature strongly encourages the Boy Scouts
16to incorporate the nondiscrimination laws of Wisconsin into their organization and
17thus serve all of the citizens of Wisconsin in a fair and honorable manner, adhering
18to their oath to be helpful, friendly, courteous, and reverent of the law, including that
19of the state of Wisconsin; and, be it further
AJR12-ASA1,2,21 20Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
21resolution to the Boy Scouts of America of the great state of Wisconsin.
