After-school care grants program.

(a) A school board may apply to the state superintendent of public instruction
8for a grant to fund an after-school care program for pupils who are eligible to receive
9temporary assistance for needy families under
42 USC 601 to
619 and who would
10otherwise be unsupervised by an adult in the afternoon after school.

(b) The state superintendent of public instruction shall award grants from the
12appropriation under section 20.255 (2) (kn) of the statutes, as created by this act, and
13shall ensure, to the extent feasible, that the grants are evenly distributed among
14rural, suburban, and urban school districts.

Transfer of funds. On the effective date of this subsection, there is
16transferred $87,700 from the appropriation account under section 20.445 (3) (md) of
17the statutes, as affected by this act, to the appropriation account under section
1820.255 (2) (kn) of the statutes, as created by this act.".
