AB877,1,2 An Act to amend 15.91 of the statutes; relating to: the appointment of the student member of the board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Current law provides that the governor must appoint one student member to the board of regents of the University of Wisconsin (UW) System and that the governor may select this student member from recommendations made by elected representatives of student governments at institutions within the UW System. This bill requires the governor to select the student member from these recommendations.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB877, s. 1 Section 1. 15.91 of the statutes is amended to read:

AB877,2,8 15.91 Board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System; creation. There is created a board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System consisting of the state superintendent of public instruction, the president, or by his or her designation another member, of the technical college system board and 14 citizen members appointed for staggered 7-year terms, and a student enrolled at least half-time and in good academic standing at an institution within the University of Wisconsin System who is at least 18 years old and a resident of this state, for a 2-year term. The student member may shall be selected from recommendations made by elected representatives of student governments at institutions within the University of Wisconsin System. The governor may not appoint a student member from the same institution in any 2 consecutive terms. If the student member loses the status upon which the appointment was based, he or she shall cease to be a member of the board of regents.
