Whereas, John R. Devitt was born in Milwaukee on August 13, 1917, and died

Whereas, John R. Devitt graduated from Holy Rosary Grade School, Marquette
5University High School, Marquette University and Marquette Law School; and

Whereas, he began practicing law in Milwaukee in 1941; and

Whereas, he was elected to serve in the 1945 Wisconsin assembly, where he was
8a member of the Judiciary Committee; and

Whereas, as a member of the assembly, he demonstrated a particular interest
10in issues surrounding the organization of local government; and

Whereas, immediately after the assembly adjourned in June 1945, he departed
12for army training; and

Whereas, he received a special leave from the army to return to Wisconsin for
14the July 1946 special session of the legislature; and

Whereas, after his discharge from the army, he returned to his law practice; and

2beginning many years of valuable service to Milwaukee County; and

Whereas, his life was marked by continued devotion to his church, his party and
4his late wife, Elizabeth; now, therefore, be it

5Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
6Wisconsin legislature salute the life and public service of John R. Devitt and mourn
7his passing; and, be it further
